It depends. If you feel good energy on it, you may wish to keep that energy around you. If I aquired an amulet from a source where it may have been prayed over or blessed, I would live with it awhile before deciding if it needs cleansing, for example, I have a bracelet that was blessed by an Indian saint named Amma. I would not want to cleanse it of her energy in that situation. If you have concerns about whoever it came in contact with before you aquired it, then it wouldn't hurt to give it a smudge, and if it makes you feel better to smudge and bless it, then why not? Although salt and saltwater is effective as a cleansing agent, I don't usually recommend it, because salt is also corrosive, and can cause damage to an item, just think about the effects of road salt on your car after awhile... It can cause pitting and stuff like that on your jewelry, and if I were going to use water to cleanse and bless it, I would use plain running water, or at least not soak anything in salt water for very long....

I always do a simple cleansing this can be as easy as dipping it in luke warm water or salt water and maybe keep it under your pillow when you sleep for a few nights..even if you do feel good energy from it this can very well be your spirit forshadowing the good things that will come from you having the beads but I would still sleep with it for a few nights.
