A measure of the speed at which a computer can perform operations.
To increase the speed of the computer you either need to buy a faster CPU and use it to replace the existing one, or overclock the existing CPU (which means running it faster then it is rated for, and risks burning it out).

GHz = Gigahertz - A frequency in which data is either transmitted or brodacasted.
Commonly, users mistake their GHz and MHz as speed. Actually the higher the Hertz, the faster the processor is, but it is not because of the GHz amount that makes the pc fast.
Speed of your system is the result of the amount of channels in a processor inwhich it can use to pump information to the North and South Bridge chips.
Typical examples of Hz, MHz, or GHz are, CB Channels, Police Radio's, Radio Stations, Wlakie-Talkies, Cell Phones, and even human beings.
A Speedy Processor requires a high transmission signal such as 3200. or a 3.5GHz processor.
Another classic no-no that most beginner techs advise their clients is to overclock the processor.. Essentially you are just burning up your CPU and Motherboard far faster than normally. While you will run a bit faster, your using far more electricity which produces heat, Default cooling systems are not intended to handle the heat load of an over clocked processor. Steer clear from those who advise you in this manner.
If you want to add more "GHz" to your machine, you must identify the motherboard in your PC (Simply remove the case panel and look for a 5 digit number consisting of letters and numbers (i.e. M7VIG-Pro = a BioStar Socket 478 board).
Next we need to identify our processor. You can use a neat little program called CPUz.exe available at http://downloads.comstar-computers.com
Once you have this information, you can research your motherboard and you can detirmine if your board can handle and upgrade and how much of an upgrade. You will be replacing your CPU (Central Processing Unit or Processor).

The Ghz you are referring mean the speed of a computer processor. The processor handles a big part of the computer, but there are many factors that affect the computer's speed. The processor is also known as CPU.
You can buy some at Amazon (the link below). If you are unsure about the what type you need you could go to a pc store and ask. I hope that helps!

As every one is saying GHZ is a way of mesuring how fast your computer is a way of making this faster is to over clock it but then you run the rist of buning out the processer. You may as well buy a new computer as they are so cheap now go to dell and have a look and they come with the new vista which some people love some hate have a go?

Hz as in Hertz is a measure of frequency. It used to be called Cycles per second. The name was changed to Hertz in the 70's anyway... Gigahertz (GHZ) is 100 million cycles per second, Megahertz is 1 million cps, Kilohertz 1 thousand cps.
The processor speed and memory speed are both measured in Hertz. Which ar you refering too?
If you mean memory, yes that comes in Kilo Bytes, Mega bytes and Giga bytes but thats capacity not speed.
If you need a faster processor you may be able to upgrade your existing system but I can't answer that without more info.

more ghz, well to start 1000 mhz is a ghz, ghz measures the speed of your processor, you would need to upgrade your processor, or if you wanted to and have to knowledge, you could overclock, its safe if you know what your doing, but if you dont! dont mess with it, or if you want to learn more about it, go to http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/ very good, i say you mise well get the most out of your money;)

i think you are referring to your processor... argh, unfortunately thats one of the expensive parts of the computer (not to mention a pain to install physically.. darn heat-sink fan that is hard to remove)
a lot of new games require at least the amount you mentioned, you could take it to a computer man who will install a new one for you, and i think it would cost you no more than £200 if he isn't a nice man, it could cost more depending on how fast you want your CPU to be and then the service cost as well but that also depends on your motherboard. check with a computer technician

Hz are the number of cycles that a sine wave makes in a second. For example if a sine wave has a frequency of 50Hz it makes 50cycles per second. if you need more Hz you need to change your C.P.U

Oh, you have a Need for (PC) Speed.
NO COST SOLUTION: Ask someone to help you overclock your processor (free Mhz) and perhaps even your graphics card. Use low quality game settings and low resolution. Also use 16bit color instead of 32bit.
MEDIUM COST SOLUTION: Upgrade your processor and perhaps even your graphics card:
COSTLY SOLUTION: Upgrade to a gaming PC.
