I guess (unfortunately for you) pizza in Italy is "totally" different than in the US. I've just seen it in a few NYC pizzerias but their look was not that attractive and I've never eated pizza in the States (as well as I'm not going to abroad "italian restaurants" after a first and unreapeated longtime ago bad experience).-
Aside the oven that in Italy is usually woodburning instead of electric ovens in the USA it's the topping that is different both for kind and quality. Besides main ingredients (tomato and mozzarella) here we use for special pizzas, obviously not all at the same time, the following :
capers, anchovies, garlic, hot salami, mushrooms, eggs, olives (green and black) , artichokes, seafoods, gorgonzola cheese, ham, parmesan cheese, onion, tuna fish, origan, hot sausage, rucola, etc, etc.
As to the family we are very possessive, we would like our kids never grow up and move from native home, all of us we know that's not the right behaviour but our sense of family is by old tradition very high. In the past it was even more than nowadays and at present is rare families are so wide like just 20-30 years ago. This has been also affected by the lower tax of natality (one of the lowest worldwide) caused mostly by the high costs requested to bring children up while general economic situation of Italians is worse than in the recent past.
When Italy was poorer than today, with a lot of peopleo obliged to emigrate children were not costly as today (society requirements were much less) and they were seen as an investment for future helpful arms in the agricolture, at that time the only resource of the majority.
I don't understand yr question about courses...!

Hi I live in Italy. Yes, pizza in Italy is completely different than the one you eat in the US and in any other country that is not Italy. Italians are very much into having a loving, caring family. I know a lot of Italians that will get married and have kids and move next door or max across the street from mom and dad. I would never do this though...LOL. I don't understand your question about courses....please explain.

There's different toppings. I loved tuna fish pizza you got in Italian restaurants in Europe. I've also seen them with artichokes, shrimp in shell, and with an egg broken in the center that cooked along with the rest of the ingredients.
