whenever i turn my computer on..only the fans seems to be working. The cd-drives wont open, the hard drive is not even running. but when i disconnect the cd-drives, or the hard drive from the mobo they start working., cd drives open and hard drive starts running. i am thinking its the motherboard...any suggestions???

It may just be hard drive (HDD) jumper setting and/or CD drive connection problem.

Make sure you set the HDD jumper to master. Follow the guide indicated in the HDD sticker or in the HDD casing itself. Connect your HDD to IDE1 port with the the 80wire ribbon (fine wires).

If you have one CD drive (ODD) set the jumper to master and connect it to IDE2 with the 40 wire ribbon. If you have 2 ODDs, set the other's jumper to slave and connect it to the middle connector of the 40wire ribbon.

what did you do before all this happened?
have you fitted anything new?

ok you say the computer will start if you unplug the CD Rom.
it sounds like you have setup both the Hard drive a the CD Rom to be Master drives. If they are on the same cable you can only have one master disk which should be your Hard drive, and the CD Rom should be set at slave

so check the jumper on the back of the cd rom and make it the slave drive

try plugging a device in one at a time as one of them may be faulty , if this don't work clear your cmos (bios) check your motherboard manual on how to do this hope this helps
