This is a hard-working, scrappy Islanders team with great chemistry. They look out for each other, and when they come together, they are a formidable force. They play a very physical game, but can do all right in the wide-open skills department as well. They are a fairly well-balanced squad. They're riding a hot goalie, and they've won huge games down the stretch against tough teams. By no means are they a pushover. They are resilient, and can be a tough match - IF they work hard. That hasn't been a given for all 82 games. In the playoffs, I think we'll see it.
My heart says the Isles will have a rough time in this series due to the sheer firepower that Buffalo has, but I can see them giving the Sabres a run for their money.
How about the extra incentive for Ted Nolan? This is a guy who will make sure he knows exactly what to expect from this Sabres team - he will want to beat them. What a storyline in his first year back in the NHL, 8 years after leaving...guess where...Buffalo. On not-so-good terms. The Sabres organization insulted him, and in his first season back behind the bench, here's his chance to make them pay.
The Isles will take AT LEAST one game on the Island. It is remarkable just how electric it gets in that old barn in Uniondale - there is nothing like it. The place really does rock.
In short, my answer: NO. No sweep.

It's very much possible. The New York Islanders do not have the defense to shut down the offensive force that is the Buffalo Sabres in the first round, nor do they even have their starting goaltender able to play for them. I would be greatly surprised if Rick Dipietro plays in the playoffs for the Islanders. Now, with Ryan Smyth in the lineup, they have their chances of upsetting the Sabres increase. However, it is highly unlikely. Buffalo is a team that can beat you and score on you with every single line that they have, while also at the same time shutting you down with their strong defensive play and good goaltending from Ryan Miller. Wayne Dubliwitz does not compare in quality of goaltending with Ryan Miller. This series is really no contest. I say Buffalo in 5, with the Sabres losing game #4 on Long Island by one, but running away with every other game in the series. The Isles have not been in the playoffs since 2004, losing in the First Round to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a series that was really no contest. By the way, Tampa went on to win the Stanley Cup. P. S., even though I am a Leafs fan, I am convinced that the Leafs would not have been able to beat the Sabres in the First Round either, and that they could very well have been swept as well.

NO! They will not sweep them. They will completely and thoroughly obliterate them. They will out score the Islanders by at least 25 to 2 in the series. The sabres are completely dominate on offense and there is no way a third string goalie can stand up to the likes of Danny Briere, Vanek, Maxim Afinogenov, and all the other great players that the Sabres have. The Islanders were pushed into the playoffs by the Devils. The Maple Leafs deserve to be there and not them and the Isles will only be around for 4 games.

One would like to think so. However, winning the President’s Trophy is like the kiss of death. Look it up, it is one bad omen. However, if any team can broom the Islanders it is the Sabres. That offense is effin scary.

If goalie Rick DiPietro who is currently injured right now doesn't play, they may just sweep them. If DiPietro does end up playing, I think the Islanders will win at least one game.
