From what I know it is because the 13 colonies were afraid of the king of England when they were colonized. So when they started the "United States of America" they left more power to the people, instead of one head. I think it is also a reason why check and balances was created. For the queen in the UK isn't it just like if they were Paris Hilton, they just get money form their government but really do nothing. ( not trying to say the queen is like Paris, don't think their is a "One Night In Elizabeth"). Also I don't think there is a king, just a prince.

Um, The Royalty doesn't actually rule in England anymore either. THeir king was ours, until we through them off with a war. 1776 or so. Somehow a Republic was put together. If you really want to know a more detailed explanation, take a history course or find a history book. 1776 by David McCollugh is pretty good. Your question is quiet complicated.

OK - I'll take you seriously, even if I can't tell if you are serious or not. Many of the first settlers became upset with taxes imposed by the King of England. When the Revolutionary War was finished, the people decided to have a government by the people, for the people. That meant elected officials and no dynasties. Hope that helps...

because the USA didn't have the same start as a nation. To begin with it was for a while a group of Royal appointed missions/colony.
But England started as a lead by seven war chieftains, made by one selected among other leaders by victory or successful survival until it just remained One,and slowly became hereditary to be called King.
Maybe the Bush clan or the Kennedys will be prop by a next weak again Congress into such old fashioned Office, one day.
Some even consider such the "natural" obvious evolution(or degeneration) of poor Democracies. And America plays very risky with an "omnimportant" Military and corrupted Administration officials

The majority of people answering this question appear to be American. Contrary to popular belief, we are not ruled by a monarch. We have a Prime Minister who is equivalent to your President. The Queen is just a figurehead nowadays with no power.
