Because our constitution and government was founded on Christian principles and the Bible, there may be a Bible Class in Public Schools that would be required for graduation. What do you think?

Do you think it's positive to be breaking the thought of 'freedom FROM religion' and going back to our constitutional foundation or not?

Studying a work as literature isn't an endorsement of its content, and they wouldn't be legally allowed to FORCE any student to take the class - it would have to be an elective only. Since most Christians have never read the entire Bible, it will probably be a very good thing for Christian students to finally see what's REALLY in there - although I bet a lot of parents will complain when they find out that the Bible is full of commands to hurt, rape, and kill people. Schools cover a LOT of fiction. They don't endorse teen suicide just because they read "Romeo and Juliet", or murder just because they read "Macbeth". The Bible is already covered in comparative religions courses, along with several other religious texts. It isn't (and can't be) taught as truth in a public school. If anything, teaching the Bible in schools (assuming it is done neutrally, as the law requires) would be a detriment to Christianity. They should be careful what they wish for.

Considering everyone isn't Christian, it probably wouldn't be a good idea. On the other hand, they need to bring back the Pledge of Allegiance. This is a patriotic act that every kid should know how to do. It's not so much about God as it is about our country and freedom. I think that it's ridiculous that they have banned this from schools. In a perfect world, though, we would have bible class, but unfortunately it's a very controversial book. Gimme' a break. I guess that us Christians should refuse to learn everything in our science books b/c some of it(i.e. big-bang theory & evolution) goes against our religion. What has this world come to??? UGH!!

I think that is a fantastic idea! I would be a bit concerned about who would be teaching that class though. I wouldn't want some cynical liberal or athiest at the helm! It'd do more harm than good! But yes, the Bible is a crucial foundation to both life and this nation!

Really... I guess I shouldn't be surprised after reading what state was thinking about it.

Our constitution was also written for white males. So lets be careful about going back to our "roots."

It would be better if instead of a bible class, it would be a class on religions. But that makes too much sense for some people to understand.

That state can try to make it a requirement, but it won't happen. There are just too many cons, and not enough pros.

My first thought is "Don't we have a separation of church and state?". I think everyone has a right to their own personal beliefs but wouldn't that open the door to teaching the Torah or the Koran in school? There are many different belief systems in this country. We should respect that. It's not a matter of bashing Christianity...It's just respectful.

I think PUBLIC schools should offer the broadest education possible. Therefore, I think a class in comparative religions (Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist) should be available.
But making a Bible class required for graduation seems rather narrow and undemocratic to me.

YES! I think that Bibles should be allowed into any school, and I think that prayer should be allowed too. I think that it's really stupid that the Bible isn't allowed, because people don't have to make a huge scene when they have one, but they should at least be allowed to read the Bible just as they would any other book.

this country was founded to be free to worship as you please, it is a personal family decision how or if you want to worship. the bible has no place in public schools. it would be unfair to every other religion that exists.
