The native tongue of this nation before it became the United States of America was Indian. Upon unification, British castaways used their native English-speaking language. Since then, immigrants from many different countries have introduced their languages to us. However, those immigrants learned the English language as their first language, keeping their born heritage as a second.

If traveling to other countries, it is considered respect to speak in their native language first, English second (for those where English is not their first language). Would it be too bold to expect the same here?

I expect not. You want to be an American, then speak the language and teach others as a second choice. Not the other way around!
