Top 5 Bands That Deserved A Better Shake 1985-present
1. The Brandos - Got sold to a record company that died when they were ready to explode. Fantastic, thoughtful rock with an occasional Celtic edge.
Key tracks: Gettysburg, The Solution, Honor Among Thieves, Gunfire At Midnight, We Are No Man, Contribution

2. Thunder - England based-band got pigeonholed into dying hair metal on their first album, but they got a haircut and are still around after seven albums - each album shows growth and solid songwriting.
Key tracks: Dirty Love, Love Walked In, Don't Wait For Me (Goodbye), Laughing On Judgement Day, She's So Fine, In A Broken Dream, 'Til The River Runs Dry

3. David Baerwald - Part of the hit duo David & David from 1985, and a member of Sheryl Crow's Tuesday Night Music Club - he co-wrote eight of the 13 tracks on that album and helped get her discovered. His 1990 solo album "Bedtime Stories" is one of the great lost gems. Think of Harry Chapin updating his sound.
Key tracks: Boomtown (David & David), All For You, Walk Through Fire, Dance, Sirens In The City, AIDS & Armageddon

4. Jon Butcher - Got noticed early with his MTV videos but somehow couldn't get his blues-influenced rock into mainstream like others before him. His 1987 album "Wishes" is beyond classic.
Key tracks: Life takes A Life, Wishes, Goodbye Saving Grace, Holy War, Send Me Somebody, Live Or Die

5. The Bears - Adrian Belew finally settled in on a talented corps of songwriter/musicians and came up with one masterpiece album from 1986 and two good follows.
Key tracks: None Of The Above, Fear Is Never Boring, Superboy, Trust, Not Worlds Apart, When She Moves

This band from Denmark called "The Blue Van" are nothing short of spectacular. They sound like a wonderful mishmapodge of The Small Faces, The Pretty Things, The Animals, The Who, and everything else that was good about 60's music all rolled into one. Seeing one of their shows is like going into a time machine back to swingin' London. They have a really classic rock sound, but with some definite soul and blues mixed into it too.

Their organist, Soren Christensen, also plays one of the meanest Hammonds I've ever Heard. On "New Slough" particularly. He is INSANE in concert. They all are actually. Their show is my 3rd favorite ever, and that's only behind the Stones and Tom Petty.

Listen to them, I think you'll love them. Their songs "Revelation of Love", "The Time Is Right", and "New Slough" are spectacular, but all their music is great.

(The) Delays ... from the U.K. They have really beautiful songs, and the falsetto from the male lead singer is very nice, but does get him comparisons with Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac or one of the Cocteau Twins ...

... very decently known in England, but virtually unknown in the United States, and that's a crime.
