Most obese people do not accurately perceive how much they eat. There have been numerous studies and the overwhelming majority of obese people don't think they over eat when they actually do. So chances are, the mother doesn't know where the over eating line is herself and she is no more aware that she's crossing it with her children then then she is with herself. There's a reason most weight loss programs include food diaries, scales and pre-measured foods.
