I would not let a 17 year old do that if I could help it. Having been 17 though the things our parents want us to do the most we want to do the least though so it has to be handled just right otherwise you'll have a 32 year old son in law before you can blink.

Any 17 would love to parade around the love of a much older man, not really realizing what she id doing and the consequences of her actions. All she sees is probably is that this looks impressive to her peers rght now but in a few years not only will her peers thinks shes a fool but so will she when she becomes mature enough to understand this. Any older guy would like to have a much younger girl by his side for his macho image knowing full well he probably wont be able to keep her for very long as he gets older. She definitely needs to know that this diference in age would shorten any marriage to a few years if she was lucky.
