Backing into a parking spot the other day my car revved up to 4000 rpm pushing on the break the car still wanted to go, when it came to a complete stop i put it in park, the veh was still revving at 4000 rpms. I emmidiatley shut the car off and restarded it and it went right to 4000 rpms. I have a 98 pontiac grand am. Any answers on what it may be will be greatly appreciated....thanks

1. Locate the air intake where the plastic hose from the air filter attaches to the plenum. Remove the hose.

2. Locate the throttle plate. Check to that the butterfly valve is operating properly. IF OK:

3. On the opposite side of the throttle shaft you'll find the TPS. Replace it.

Only takes a few minutes to replace.

could be a stuck throttle cable,or a air hose may have come loose, check around the throttle body where the air cleaner tube joins the engine..
