It's kind of a nature vs nurture question. Like, if the biological father were a great baseball player.. would the kid inherit that ability? Or is that classified by environment/nurture?

What about intelligence, emotional ability etc?

Please provide some good sources if you have any.

Fortunately or unfortunately, whatever the case may be, kids absolutely inherit their biological parents' traits. That is what DNA transmit, not only physical, but also intellectual and various other abilities. However, Being a great baseball player doesn't guarantee that his child would even like baseball. Athletic abilities can be nurtured, fortunately. I believe couch potatoes would not necessarily have babies who would eventually become couch potatoes themselves, not if the kids are raised by disciplined parents who lead by example.

I can't really provide any sources; other than I have seen this for myself; many times. My daughter's father was killed when they were very little. They were not around him very much. I have seen many traits of his in my youngest daughter.

I have also seen this in adopted children. Traits; expressions; verbal intonation; gestures; personality quirks...all of these occur when the child hasn't even been (ever) in the presence of their biological parents. It is uncanny.

Nurture has impact. Nature is inherited and (just my opinion) can only be changed with a lot LOT of practice. I am not sure a person can truly change their nature.

Of course they do. They are made of biological components that came from their biological parents. That's what "inheriting" things means in a biological sense. They will have inherited physical characteristics, health propensities, and possibly some "talents" or abilities that COULD be nurtured and developed.

An adopted child would probably be a mix of the biological and adoptive parents. All of my friends who are adopted display the thoughts and ideals and maybe later on, jobs, of their adoptive parents, though they still keep the physical traits and characteristics of their biological parents. My adoptive friend Jack learned baseball from his adoptive father, but his natural propensity for it could actually be from his biological father or mother. It has been studied that adoptive children will ususally be naturally inclined towards the favorites of their parents, though it has yet to been proved.

Of course. All their inherited traits come from their biological parents.
