My husband got hurt and was honorably discharged---We went from the kids and I having insurance to not having any insurance at all. If I am married to a Veteran does that mean that the spouse (me) would still get some type of insurance as well? What are the benefits do spouses have if married to a veteran? I keep hearing all these good things but cant find anyone to help answer these questions---not even the VA itself...What can I do--I just want some answers from someone who knows what they are talking about. I know I have benefits after my husband passes away but I am in no hurry to wish that to happen. I just wanna know what are the "PERKS" of the VA for Spouses of veterans? We live here in Alabama---

There are no VA benefits for the spouse and children after military service unless he retires. You get benefits as long as he is in but that's it. He doesn't get much either. This is what I have found from 16+ years in the U.S. Army. Sorry.

Sorry to say but unless your husband was 100
percent disabled when he was discharged you are
just about entitled to nothing from the V.A. Bush
and others have cut many costs and even the svc
or ex-svc member that needs help from the V:A.
can hardly get it as too many need help and not
enough money to help everyone. Best thing is to
contact the V.A representative in your area and
your husband should be able to get all the info
needed since he is the veteran. As an ex-military
retired all things that were promised to us is
nothing but propaganda as services for veterans
are so few now and so much red tape to go thru
that the majority of us just don't bother- but if your
husband needs help because of an injury due to
his service then by all means fight for your rights.
Since you did not really specify exactly what per
cent his disability was it is best to contact your
V:A: representative in your area and stay on it be-
cause they are very lax a daisical. Good luck.

It depends on the amount of disability. If he is 100%, yes. Get a booklet on Veterans and their family's rights from the VA. Check with the local VFW or American Legion. If he belongs to either, there is a veterans representative that will advocate for you and your family. It is better to go after you rights with back-up. Good Luck

I am assuming your husband is getting VA Disability Benefits since he was hurt while he was in the military.

If your husband is rated 100% permanently disabled you are illegible for ChampVA insurance for dependents of disabled vets.

The website below should be able to give you all the information you need.... Look under Benefits at the left

Suggest you contact your closest DAV (Disabled American Veterans) representative. They have a vast array of knowledge relating to this and other veteran related programs and will serve as an advocate of your husband if anything can be done for you, him and your family.
Thank your husband for giving of himself and thank you and your family for the hardships I'm sure you had to endure! Regardless of my feelings about the involvement that the US government has put upon us, I will always support the troops in every way.
Happy Easter

I once dated an older guy who was a persian gulf veteran and he had all kinds of problems, but he couldn't get anything out of the VA!

It's really sad what they do to our guy and grrls....

Best of luck to your husband, please tell him "thanks" for his sacrifices (and yours too)! I wish the government would step up and take care of these people and their families...
