Good posture is important to allow the lungs to expand fully and allow a maximum capacity of oxygen into the lungs. Be certain to keep the nasal sinuses open and the airways unobstructed by using any medications your physician may have subscribed for the treatment of sinus infections, allergies, bronchitis or athsma. Abdominal aches associated with movement may be caused by weak abdominal muscles in the pelvic floor and may indicate a need for strengthening exercises (see your doctor before doing these) or a good foundation garment to support these muscles might be helpful while exercising.

Many folks just think taking deep breaths does the trick.... Before you do that you need to expel all the air in your lungs, thus removing all the CO2 that has built up. Exhale deeply more than a few times. This makes more room in your lungs to intake oxygen. Start a rhythmic breathing process when you run or do cardio, usually in through your nose and out through your mouth. Slowly and methodically, like you are meditating.

Inhale as deeply as you possibly can, then sniff in three more times . Exhale as long as you can then blow out three more times.

Do this about 3-5 times 3 times a day. It will expand your lung capacity and improve oxygen to your blood stream and improve your mental powers and everything else.

You may feel strains when you start but it will help improve your oxygen intake.

When running breath in through your nose and out your mouth. I never knew why it helped but in karate that's what my sensai said to do.
