ok so i have this really reliable PC that I had since 1998 and upgraded to a 2000. I really do not want to buy a new PC because I have recently got a new 360GB Hard Drive, and 1 GB momory(RAM) for it. I was hoping I could upgrade my CPU. I now have a Pentium1! I was thinking of a Pentium4, Dual Core(or w/e), Celoron M but I am afraid my motherbourd could not handle it or the CPU would not fit!(I know a good amount about computers). So thanks for any help anyone can offer!

You'll need a new mainboard, period. Memory is different (SDRAM to DDR SDRAM to DDR2), expansion slots are different (PCI to AGP to PCI-Express), even HD interfaces are different (IDE to ATA DMA4 to SATA).

Sure processor pentuim 4 wont fit on a pentuim 1 motherboard.
You will need a few stuff:
1. a good mother board like asus or something.
2. the cases for pentuim 1 mother boards are different from those of pentuim 4 so you will need a new case.
3. The processor, you should decide its speed according to your needs and budget, 3.4 dual is excellent. Dont get celeron except if you are on a limited budget.
4. If you are a gamer then you will need a good graphics card, nvidia are the best ones. if you are on a limited budget, you can sacrifice some of the processor abilities for the Graphics, ensure that you get a great graphics card and preferebly not built in the motherboard. those built in are less powerful and requires RAM from the system.
5. I think that you will need to change your ram to fit in your new mother board but ask about that because i am not sure.

6. To make the most use of your new hardware, you have to have a good os, preferebly windows vista. If you using a normal single coer processor then get the 32bit edition, dual core get 64bit edition.

Feel free to mail me if you need any help.

best of luck.

You will not be able to upgrade it to P4.
you can only upgrade to what the motherboard will be able to handle and that would still be in the P1 range.
your best bet is to get a new PC.
you can use the hard drive out of it. Memory would NOT probally be usable.
