Kobe is the better individual player. But that's not the question, is it? The question was who made the team better. Kobe is undeniably an awesome player, but Shaq's departure made HIMSELF better, not the team. Shaq's arrival to Miami, however, made the Heat - as a team - better, even when he's not on the playing floor.

D-Wade was that great partly because of Shaq. The same goes for other Heat players. Kobe is phenomenal, but I can't say the same thing about him. He does not strive to make anyone else better...other than himself.

Let's see. OK, Shaq has it good because for a man his size, nobody has been able to do the things he's done or change the nature of the game like he has. It takes about the entire starting five to hold him down. Kobe's a good scoring threat. Nobody goes after a person's heart more like Kobe, but you have to look at all he's been through: rape charge, selfish play, colliding with Shaq. Although none of these should factor into his legacy (it's all about how you play on the court), somebody is going to make a beeline and try to put this in. Tim Duncan. His game is so fundamentally sound that it's boring, but it is, nontheless, effective (hence the name, Big Fundamental). But he makes sure to include the team in everything. If he gets double teamed, he knows how to kick out to the open man. If he wasn't so good like he was, he wouldn't have won the NBA Finals MVP three times. Dwyane Wade. While D-Wade is the flashiest and most explosive player in the NBA, one NBA Finals Series doesn't make you great or carve out a legacy right then and there. He still needs some more years under his belt and hopefully those years will include championships. He's great because although it is his team, he makes it a point to include his teammates and get it to Shaq when he needs to.

Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant are bothe amazing players in every sense of the word. Shaq is more of a team player. Shaq choose to let Dwade take over on the offensive end and let him flourish as a player. To everybody that said the Heat are only led by Dwade think this, Dwade is a great player, but how diud he become great? A man by the name of Shaquille O'Neal took him under his wing and tought him the true meaning of the game. Shaq actually cares about his team, they get along well and he influences them in a positive manner. In addition, during this season when everybody saw Dwade go down and claimed Miami wouldnt even make the playoffs, Shaq took on the offensive role and scored 20+ a game. Miami secured the Southeast title, and the whole team is acting great as a whole. Kobe Bryant does not even have close to an ounce of the influence Shaq has, because at the end of the day, the only thing Kobe cares about is the stat sheet, and making the record books

Obviously, Shaq. He carried the Magic to the finals with Penny Hardaway. He carried the Lakers to the finals with Kobe. He carried the Heat to the finals with DWade. That's three teams he's made better in his career and carried into the finals.

Kobe? Well, he was along for the ride when Shaq was in LA, but since then his teams don't even have a winning record and have limped into the playoffs.

Shaq and Kobe has made their team great in many ways. I remember Kobe making 81 points during a game vs. the Toronto Raptors. Shaq makes a great team with Dwyane Wade.

Both players make their team better.

I think Shaq has a bigger impact because he makes it easier for all of his teammates. He gets doubled and triple teamed a lot and gets easy shots for his teammates.

Kobe does as well, but his teammates tend to stand around and admire Kobe's 1-on-1 skills. I think if the other Lakers moved better, it would be a better comparison.

But until that happens, Shaq makes his team better-er.... ;)

Some people obviously didn't understand your question. It's not Who got better? its Who made their TEAM better? Kobe is the better player because he has no choice and he has no help. Shaq makes anyone look good because he is still, and I repeat, he is still commanding double-teams at the age of 35 (he's somewhere around 35). You gotta give props to a man who guarantees a championship to a city that NEVER won one. and he get's it within 2 years. Kobe needs a big man to help him. He knows it and Phil Jackson knows it.
