I'm going to have to agree with thedavecorp.
The reason that men "buy" brides is because of the false idea that these women from societies that aren't western styled (Eastern Europe, Asia, the Middle East, South America, so on) are also not feminists and will not make them essentially pay to be in a relationship with them (So it's better to just pay some sleezey guy, right?). However, this is not the truth. Women over there are just as scummy as American girls, even though feminism is more mainstream in our society. Of all the people I've known with "mail order brides", and there have been quite a few, only one of them hasn't been screwed over yet.
If she learns English, and it's illegal to keep her from doing such, you more than likely will get screwed. And I'm not just talking about her divorcing you once she gets citizenship, I'm talking about her having a kid with you, then divorcing you, so then you're not only down a wife, but you're also down a kid and some child support and alimony each month.
Women can get divorced for nearly any reason these days. These mail-order-bride set-ups are how a good deal of the "thick accented" female citizens of our nation got here. I've met quite a few raunchy Russian women who came over here and got citizenship by screwing a lonesome and fed-up American guy over.
It's the same thing as how foreigners on visas are always in such a scramble to marry any dateless cow they can find.

Here's the short version:
Too many American men are getting the shaft. They get a less attractive person because they didn't get the right SATs to go to college and couldn't get a good job, or went to college for the wrong thing, or knocked someone up because the condom broke. Or they're just tired of the MANY women out there that make you jump through hoops.
Today's men want an attractive woman who is not going to break your balls. And women from other countries have great opportunities here.
I know two people personally, one who had an arranged marriage, another who met a girl from Estonia online - both are very happy - at least as far as their marriage is concerned. It makes me think twice about "buying American" myself, (but I could never trust a girl like that - who knows what happens when their citizenship is finalized).
We are tired of going through the BS.
