If you want to shake someones hand...and they don't notice you...how do you react?

Haa ..awkward isn't it ? Almost like having to discreetly tell somebody they have a nasal critter peeking out that needs some immediate attention.
To do my part to avoid it, I reach my arm out as I am walking towards them. They have to be blind not to notice. But, maybe they are blind? I just reach over and scratch my arm, kinda nonchalantly. I also be sure to try and finish the conversation with the handshake that should have been the greeting. Missing one is bad enough, but missing both could be seen as not trying at all, and that could be perceived as disrespectful.

Some people don't like to shake hands due to germs maybe they were trying to avoid eye contact on purpose. I do what Howie Mandel does / knuckles.

I do one of two things. I say "excuse me I' like to shake your hand" or sometimes I just lightly grip their arm with my left hand. Either way, it gets their attention.
