2 days ago I answered a Question, ' Stupid Ol' people,they
always think they are right and when they are not why will they never listen?.
Somebody must have reported abuse and it was removed, I do not agree with that cause she has a good point there.
Most people on yahoo answers seem pretty young, so I
wondered how far they would consider me to be past my
sell by date.
Don't hold back there's no need to be nice to this old Gramps,
I am mean and nasty to children and eat babies for breakfast !

I extend my congratulations to the majority of the answerers to my slightly
provocative 'Ageist' question .You have given me honest well balanced, sensible answers, and if I were as serious as some of you seem to think.
I would be thoroughly chastised by now!
Unfortunately I intend to stay forever young in mind and remain cheeky till my
candle blows out.
I'll put on some Bob Dylan in your honour
' Well I was some older then,
I'm younger than that now'

Thanks, don't think I can choose best answer yet,if at all.

"OLD" is relative. When I was in the third grade, I thought my teacher was old. Years later, when I was teaching third grade next door to her, I discovered the year she taught me, she was 27 years old. She died at 42...still not old. Now I'm 66 and even though I'm disabled now with rheumatoid arthritis, in my head I feel young. My mother-in-law turns 93 in two days. She can walk; I can't. I can see; she can't. I'm so old I can remember when "old people" were treasured for their experience, their wisdom, and their status in the family. We've lost something by tossing them in the nursing homes when they can no longer bring home the bacon and take care of everyone else. "OLD" has taken on a different meaning these days. I've decided "old" is more attitude than age. I have a whole bunch of grandchildren and I enjoy them and my daughter and son-in-law and my friends and I'm having a great time!

When I was 10 I thought 21 was getting up there and I thought people were practically dead by 30. Anything past that was beyond hope. Funny how now that I'm 32 (1 month away anyway) I think as long as you wake up every morning, you can never be past the sell by date ;o) ☼
Carry on............

For the record......My daughter is only 7. According to her, she is always right and good luck trying to get her to listen once she has made up her mind, so that has nothing to do with age. It's all about state of mind.
(I love my daughter with everything I have and she is a very loving, caring, bright child, but she can be as stubborn as a mule when she wants to be, but then again, can't we all? LOL)

'61? You're only five years older than my husband. I think old is relative. I remember being about 8 and some guy came to our door looking for my mom. When she returned I told her about him and she asked me how old he was and my reply was "He was really old, maybe 25". Now, I'd say 25 is young. I think old is a feeling. I'm past my mid 30's and I still feel really young. I plan on feeling this way until I die.
I guess when you get older they get set in their ways and it's hard for them to be open minded.
What is old? I'd say when you're a real grampa type with really wrinkly skin and walk with the help of a cain. I'd say you still have a good 40 years or so.
Sorry, I'm just not that mean, you old fart! ;-)

Perhaps they are like spring wine, bittersweet and fresh off the vine. You,on the other hand, are aged wine.Mellow as only time can impart, rare and hard to find, and intelligently able to quench a knowledge thirsty mind with a slow, savored sip of knowledge.

"Old" is like bad words for Jews, African-Americans etc. It should not be used for human beings. A person should not be defined by the number of years they have accumulated.

When I hear people make ageist remarks about others, I remember that they are really doing it to themselves. Their stereotypes about age will slowly imprint themselves on their body and their mind. "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." "As ye sow, so shall ye reap." They will slowly grow into what they expect "old" to be.

If all your friends are "young" when you are "young", all your friends will be "old" when you are "old."

It's amazing that women and Blacks have grown out of internalized sexism and racism, yet "old" people are still supposed to feel a diminished sense of self-worth. I've even heard of people having an "over-the-hill" party when they hit forty. I mean, how sad can you get?

I feel that old varies from person to person. It is a state of mind. My parents, for example are 73, but get around a lot better than some 50 year-olds, my ex-manager for one. A friend of mine calls my parents "elderly". Eldery to me is being incapable of taking care of oneself. My 44 year-old cousin who has been in teh wheelchair since age 21 He's more elderly than my parents.
My father and I discuss music from Snoop to Duke. & Count. How many parents and offspring do that?

Depends on how old the answerer is.Some people can't take a joke, others get offended, others don't know how to laugh. The older a person is,more knowledged they become.

You've been reading too much Hansel and Gretel!lol.

Fifty is the new 30, so 30 must be the new 10.
