I think it is.

Thats what my parents do to me. You see, we adopted two other kids. Both older than I. I am the one that gets the higher standards as in grades, boys, etc. Its irritating at times.

I would say that yes in a way ...we, as parents, do! It's not that the expectations are higher it is that our experience is not as secure. See the things is that with every stage your first child goes through...it is also the first for parents. We are not always right and we may not always seem fair...but we are learning and trying to do the right thing (most of us). As time goes on ...say with the second child...we have more experience...our expectations about behavior change because of our experiences raising the fist child.
I don't know if this helps...but I see it as a pretty true statement based on my own personal experiences.
Good Luck!!!

I am a first borm and my parents don't hold me to a much higher standard than my younger brother. My brother makes straigth A's and I don't so along as I am trying my best that is all that matters to them. I don't think that it is normal although I don't know what the norm is

i think so: i'm the first born, and my parents are overprotective towards me than towards my brother (or maybe its because i'm female).
