Who here with a college degree works at a job that doesn't require one because you'd rather work at a job that you can tolerate than to work in an office job that would make you want to jump out of a window? I know I spent a lot of money on college but the concept of being in a cubicle or small office all day would kill me.

Sort of. I have a bachelor's and an associate's. But my job only requires the associate's. I found out that all the jobs that take my bachelor's (engineering) are chained-to-a-computer, running-simulations-all-day, you're-a-slave-to-the-company kind of jobs. I didn't need that. Give me an honest hard day's work with my hands.

All that paid attention realize.... that whatever the degree may be that there are so many jobs and places to be. Cubicles are not always the answer and even if they are for a bit the world is a big place.

Those who think small stay small. My example is..... you get a job at the world bank. You do paperwork but travel the world and do good for people.

Get whatever job because you did not pay attention.

I have a university degree adn a Post Graduate degree and I work for my local council as a PA. It certainly didn't require those qualifications and I am certainly not planning on staying here forever, but it's a great way to gain experience, get used to working responsibly full-time, get to know what you like and don't like about the business you're in adn then make the move when you're ready. Happiness comes before money, status or position.

I've worked at a lot of jobs tht don't require one...only once have I gotten a higher rate of pay for having a degree...

I think it is really important to enjoy your work most of the time - it is where you spend a lot of your time...I once left a well paying job to go work on the summer cleaning staff of an outdoor resort just to have a beautiful summer in great location where I could enjoy hotsprings and hiking etc...and it was minimum wage too..never missed the money...

I have a college degree and I work in an office job that makes me want to jump out of a window... if there were any windows in my room. But then again, I tried the non-office route, too. You can keep the romanticized visions of blue collar employment. Office works sucks, but those other jobs sucked even harder... and payed for sh*t.

I have an MBA from Indiana University - there are lot of jobs out there that are both challenging and enjoyable that do not put you in a cubicle every day - you just have to look until you find the right one.
