that one of the west's biggest nightmares is for 3rd world countries to grow and develop?
In other words they'll do everything in their power to make sure this does n't happen.
Why is this the case?

It is a case of the ex colonial powers still wanting control over economically weak former colonies. This is by any means possible using any method possible. So yes you are right. see link

And people wonder why these economies are ruined.

It is not true. The wealthier other countries are the wealthier the west is. Moreover, wealthier countries are less likely to start wars. The belief that economics is a zero sum game in which people get wealthier only at the expense of others is a throughly discredited artifact of Marxism. Only the ignorant still believe it & only Latin American Marxists still advance it.

I think the concept of interest is involved. Making money out of thin air means someone else somewhere has to do the work.
We waste a lot in the west so someone else has to pay for it. We can't afford to pay 'developing' nations what their goods are really worth, so it is cheaper to rip them off and this involves corrupting their politicians and writing the rules (ie world bank) from the top down, in our favour.
Mexico I understand struggles to pay the interest on the money they own Uncle Sam(ael), so they are in a sort of financial vice.

Dont think so , we send enough help , which must compromise our own well being in certain aspects. The world will need every available resource in the future and this must surely mean involving every possible source . As a planet we are constantly evolving , some quicker than others , but thats life !!!

I live "in the West" and I can think of no real, concrete examples that what your suggesting is true and MANY examples of us trying to bring the rest of the world up to our daily living standards. We spend Billions on Foreign aid. Spend Billions on research alone trying to cure "World Wide" epidemics and other problems as a matter of daily routine. Sorry, but I can't see any real evidence that we're trying to hold anybody back, except those that slaughter and kill, and guess what, we spend Billions killing off those assholes (for everybody else) too!

For us and the other developed countries to stay ahead of the poorer countries we need to keep them from developing too much! Sad but true!

We attempt to help the other countries to grow as we are in Iraq. They are just so prehistoric, that it will take generations for them to get into the 19th century
