Help! I haven't had my period for almost two years now and I started having them six years ago. I'm sixteen, not pregnant, take a multivitamin, and have a normal weight. What's wrong? Could stress possibly cause my periods to stop for that long? I've consulted with my gyno, but she doesn't know what's wrong. :(

Well, I've actually consulted with two gynos. :-/ Both said it was either an earlier weight loss I went through (I've stopped; my weight has been stable for a year now) or due to stress from school.

Have you had your prolactin levels checked? My friend Sue had a very similar thing happen -- the periods started normally but stopped completely after 3-4 years. After she got married, she really wanted kids, so she went to a new doctor, and her prolactin levels were high, so her ovaries "thought" she was nursing a baby and didn't release any more eggs. After treatment to reduce prolactin levels she had two fine sons.

your gyno'smay be right, try gaining a little weight and see what happens, eat properly also.
The absence of menstrual periods is known as amenorrhea — a sign that hormone patterns have been disrupted. Women who suffer from anorexia and women athletes who train seriously for competition often have amenorrhea.
Amenorrhea can also be caused by serious hormonal conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, in which the ovaries produce higher than normal amounts of hormones, which can interfere with egg development and ovulation.
Go back to your gyno or doctor and ask them to do more test, ask them to do a scan to rule out ovarian cysts.

Hi there..
Youve got whats called secondary ammenorhea ( excuse the spelling ) this is just a fancy way of saying no periods when youve previously had them.
Stress and weight loss can deffinatly cause this too happen but this has been going on for awhile now so i think its worth going too see your doctor again and getting blood tests if you havent already and get another opinion.
Good luck!

Make sure that the two docs that you saw took all the right tests to find the problem. Did they do ultra sounds, or CT scans? If you haven't tried the birth control pill or homones like progestrone have they talked about a exploratory laperoscopy? Do you know your female family history?

I dont know what your situation is, but if you lost an enormous amount of weight in a short period of time, that can cause your period to stop...also, being anorexic or balemic will cause that too....i dont want to know if you are and you shouldnt post that if you are but keep that in mind....if you are not giving your body the proper nutrition, like foods and liquids, it will hold on to things.... good luck,...i hope your ok

This could have to do with hormonal imbalance which can be caused by stress and other issues in your body. Check out the following website on reasons to consider botanical hormone balancing creams. Most likely stress, although I don't think that would cause them to stop for two years. I would go and see some more gynecologists - it can't hurt to get more than two opinions. Hope this helps and good luck xXx

I would get a second opinion or 3rd or 4th... Something is obviously wrong with you! It can be healthy to not have it up to 3 months, but 2 years is very unhealthy! See someone else!

I agree, you should get a 2nd opinion. It's not normal, or healthy to miss your period for that long. Definitely get it checked out again...you could end up with osteopenia or osteoporosis if it continues.
