Because people tend to think that bad things only happen to others and never to them. We all need a reality check and real life is not glamorous at times. If people can receive help from the media covering their plights then the news has been effective.

The media is only a tool of the government. "Bad news" or "sensationalism" distracts people from the real issues that politicans and government officials don't want to deal with.
So, murder and mayhem; rape and sexual assault; movie stars who shave their heads; athletes who snort a million dollars up their nose; and 'war' all serve to keep us blind to the heinous activities going on in the houses of government. -RKO- 04/08/07
