I used to love the crusts!! But now that you call them "protectors" you have made them into some kind of "Knights of the royal bread", I cannot eat them now!!

Well here is my view point on this subject,
It is a loaf of bread and if you buy it, you can throw away the ends if you really want to..
Alot of people dont like the ends and I know numerous people that throw them away.. Including me...
Personally being wasteful would be having the bread for too long and letting it get bad after only eating a little bit of it. then throwing a half a loaf away..
You are not being wasteful at all and if it bothers the people that are saying you are being wasteful just offer them your ends and im sure they will stop saying this.. Sometimes people are too picky..
Antother way around this is tell them your not going to be wasteful anymore and you are going to give your ends to the birds to eat for now on so they dont go hungry,, It solves the problem..

I don't know that you are being wasteful. I know someone who prefers the ends. I eat them, as well. I live alone but if I am visiting a family member I reach back into the loaf to get the good untouched bread. I wash my hands frequently but many people do not!

I don't eat them (as is) and I don't use them as "real" bread savers either.
I am not wasteful. I save them and cut them into small cubes for homemade croutons. These croutons are then used for my salads, for a snack dipping them in Bleu Cheese Dressing, or for crushing and breading meat.
If I have plenty of croutons, I simply soak the ends in fat drained off from any meat I had fried earlier then make homemade suet for the birds.
If I don't feel like making something out of these ends, they go to my dog who needs to be fed whether I eat those ends or not, so even if they feed the dog, they are not wasted.
: )
Happy Easter !!

THERE ARE STARVING CHILDREN IN AFRICA WHO WOULD GLADLY EAT THE ENDS OF THE BREAD FOR YOU, LADY!! Just Kidding. By the time it got to Africa, it would be gone, bugs would have eaten it. I don't like them as much as the regular bread, but it's fine to throw them away. I think they make good grilled cheese, if you put the smooth/crust side in the middle, touching the cheese. It's not THAT wasteful to throw away two pieces of bread per loaf, but think about maybe throwing them out on your lawn, for the birds, or feeding them to your dog or something. I'm pretty sure you won't burn for throwing them away. :-)

LOL...never heard it called that, but that is the way I've always treated it. It keeps the real bread fresh, but goes in the trash with the bag.
Ask those people if they've ever been served the ends of the bread in a restaurant? NO!
ROB...the bag is to hold it all together. The ends keep the "real bread" fresh.

Ewww I hate the end pieces!! I always throw them away or feed them to the dog. I like the spongy pieces that don't have a shell on one side. You're not being wasteful it's only two slices of bread...you could feed them to the birds.

I usually do eat them; but I never saw them as protectors! Interesting...
But I know some people aren't too keen about them; so I'd just throw them out for the birds rather than in the trash.
Cheers!! :)

Yes, you are being very wasteful, bad girl. LOL. Some people just don't like the end pieces. I eat them, though, unless I feed them to the birds. =)
