My brother is so eager to finish the game, then again, he doesn't want to lose the character.

If you save at the last save point, you can always reload the file and kill every heartless in sight, if you want. Your game won't be deleted once you finish the game unless your playstation breaks or you or some one purposely deletes it.

Before the end of the game, there is a save point in front of a big door. if you try to open the door, it will warn your that you won't be able to go back after you enter it.
My advice, SAVE AT EVERY SAVE POINT.

You can always go to your pre-final boss save and continue from that point. There isn't a save+ in this game, so you can't accidently overwrite your last playthough. (I think.)
