Charge it by stripping it of some of its electrons with
laser and get it to circulate through a curved magnetic field
When it has accelerated a good deal, then change the field
and let the particle crash into a given target!
Of course you must put a couple of atoms in there to better your chances of splitting one! Or else what is it going to crash against?
Now understand there is a catch here: atoms are really small and very hard to count you know;) they are so very tiny that they are invisible...Grrrr, lill buggers!
Since there are some already available just about everywhere (since we don't live on a vacuum) the good news is you don't have to buy them!
I recommend isotopes, which are already unstable;)
A good place to find unstable isotopes that are also heavy
is a nuke plant!
Believe it or not, the very sharp chiesel and lazer could very well work!
Please do not try this at home;)

They looked for ones whose nucleii were a lot less strong, and for this reason a lot less complicated to split. oftentimes, the heavier the nucleus (the more advantageous protons and neutrons), the a lot less strong the atom. in addition they wanted atoms that are modern in some abundance obviously. The heaviest element plentiful in nature is uranium. so a concepts as we are able to tell or diploma, each and every atom of an isotope (like U-238) of uranium (or the different element) has similarities. So one atom of U-238 is not any more advantageous particular than the different.

Accelerate protons into lithium like Rutherford did 100 years ago.
