Tell your daughter not panic! It happens to me too!
I did this in my A level psychology actually - it turns out only me and another girl were the only ones it happened to in the class lol - everyone thought we were wierd!

The theory is that when we are in deep sleep our body goes into paralysis to stop us acting out dreams and aswell to give us full body replenishment! Some people have a disorder and wake up during this! Its nothing to worry about - its just a little scary sometimes!

Sleep paralysis - a sleeping disorder - DON'T WORRY! I get it to, it's quite scary, you are awake but you can't control any part of your body only your eyes and sometimes the tips of your fingers, it's not dangerous, just a condition, inherited from parents usually, i haven't had a case for a while, sometimes you wont experience them for years, tell her to sleep on her side and not on her back. But she can't really help it, she may overgrow it, but for the present time, it's natural, a lot of us get it, not to worry, it can be scary but it's not dangerous.

What causes it is when we sleep, our brains paralyze out bodies (all of us) so that we don't physically react to our dreams, which prevents us from hurting ourselves, imagine you are dreaming of having a fight, if you weren't paralyzed, you'd be punching your husband in the face, so we are prevented from hurting ourselves or others, sleep paralysis, is just when the period of being paralyzed overlaps with the period of awakening. So we are still paralyzed when awake, it doesn't last for very long though.

i have the exactly same thing..

but it happens when i am sleeping.

let me explain when i go to sleep i wake up about 4 o' clock and i can't move not a muscle, what is happening is that I'm in a deep sleep when you go into a deep sleep your body sends a chemical out to paralyse the body so when you are dreaming you don't hit out or hurt yourself.
but what is happening in your daughters case what i have read is that she may be tired over tired and she is fighting it, and what happens is that the chemical is still being released into her body and it is paralysing her.
or the other thing is that she can be to relaxed and is tricking the brain into thinking it is going to sleep, and it send out the paralysing chemical.
don't be worried about this it happens to people sometimes.

If this happens soon after waking up it could be sleep paralysis taking longer to wear off than the unconsciousness of sleep.

This usuall happens if a person is awakened during a period of REM sleep. Check out web sites on REM sleep and it should put your mind to rest.

Yes, I went through this when I was a very little girl. It is real. I eventually outgrew it. I believe it is a spiritual experienced. Your little girl is blessed and the eyes of the God are watching her.

I know why your daughter feels paralyzed. It's because there is a witch, A spirit if you will, which has temporarily taken control of your daughter's movements. That's what it is, A witch! Go to church and have a holy person bless your daughter's bedroom. You're Welcome.

never heard of anything like that. sounds more medical than psychological though. i'd check with the doc. maybe a sleep disorder?

take her to the doctors. it might be that her brain is awake but her body needs time to catch up.

Have a look at my question on sleep paralysis. It seems that quite a lot of us suffer from it.
