Fox news says they are fair and balanced when they are clearly biased towards the right. CBS, ABC, NBC don't say anything but they seem to have subtly institutionalized a left-of-center way of thinking (CBS mostly). CNN seems to have embraced a slightly more liberal attitude. NPR much more so. The only news program I've seen unbiased is PBS - it has the most information but it is the most dull and gets the lowest ratings!! So do people really just want to get the news from their own point of view? Or do they truly want objectivity? Is objectivity boring?

Subtly institutionalized left of center? Are we watching the same networks? I work for one of these networks (not CBS) and there isn't any subtly involved. It's down and dirty, in your face liberalism. Stories about conservative issues are broadcast and the facts are (usually) given, but the language used has very negative contexts.

Anyways, to your question,

I do think that people want objectivity in their news, which is why you've seen the ratings of the national news drop over the last decade, and the internet newsites rise in popularity. I personally don't watch any televised news, even though I work for one.

Want? I think not. In your very statements can be seen evidence that having bias is much more preferred. Is it right? Of course not. We should receive news that is completely devoid of opinion and based solely in fact, but we aren't going to get it. News today has become nothing more than a propaganda machine.

You from your statements are obviously a right-winger. Take my word as a true left-winger, the media in this country is so far to the right that the only left-wing news resource on Cable is Free Speech TV. I am not condoning it. I still think news should be objective.

The major networks - NBC, CBS, and ABC are still the most objective. They may not be perfect, but at least they try. Everyone knows Fox is nothing but conservative propaganda. CNN tries for balance with that nutcase Glenn Beck. MSNBC Is not way to the left - it is slightly left of center. Fox is so extremely far to the right that anyone in the middle seems like a left-winger by comparison!

I'd much rather have an objective media - even a dull one -than a biased left or right one. That's why I try to get my news on the Internet from other sources.
Makes it much more difficult though to find the truth .. if ever.

I think we need a balance (!) between biased and unbiased news. I really do prefer unbiased news, but I like to hear a few opinions too. I don't watch TV news anymore, it's not worth it. Most of it isn't really news, just sensationalism and entertainment. I look around the internet and radio.
