Here are the standard answers

Heating Pad
Motrin- try to start taking Motrin or Ibuprofen two days before the period as it will help relax stuff and the cramps will be less severe.

Here's my experience
Alieve and avoiding caffeine right before and during my period. Caffeine makes cramping worse. Also I have found taking Primrose Oil (it comes in capsule form) usually helps with all of my pms and period symptoms. I had wicked horrible cramps for years and I started taking that stuff and it's the first time in my life I had a period without cramps. (You have to take the primrose oil all month like a supplement...not just before or during. It doesn't relieve pain or anything..just helps regulate hormones in general.

One other thing. Taking a calcium supplement is supposed to help reduce pms symptoms..but if you're looking for the fast fix your gf should stick to taking the Ibuprofen or Alieve before and during her period.

Hope this helps...cramps are a b*!@h

Ibuprofen (band names include Motrin and Advil) works very well. It works not because it's simply a pain med, but because of the type of pain med. One of the effects of this type of med is to quiet the excess spasms of involuntary and smooth muscles.

But she should ask her pharmacist first.

Of course, there's something else that you'll enjoy, and she may as well. Either one of you may not particularly enjoy the idea of penetrative sexual activities during her period, but there are lots of other ways to express yourselves. And the neurochemicals that are produced as a result of orgasm very much help to reduce spasms. Ask her if she'd like to try it, but obviously don't insist on it.

The best things that help me are going for a walk and putting a heating pad on my abdomen. Midol works sometimes, too, if you want to take something.

She shouldn't drink milk when she has her period. It makes the cramps worse. Hot pad and Motrin helps me.
