Philippine Visa extension can be obtained either by applying at the Immigration office at Intramuros, Manila or Angeles or Cebu City or San Fernando, LA Union. Or, you can pass it to a travel agent for processing for a small fee. An efficient travel agent for philippine visa extensions is Swagman Travel at Flores St., Ermita, Manila. Their telephone number in Manila, Philippine is (63)(2)524-5816.
or just extend your visa right away when you get there.

REALLY THAT HARD. I had experience lining up for the US consulate interview in the past but did not make it. Coming to the US is not a walk in the park with a ribbon on your shirt. The US immigration officer will scrutinize every documents you have if it is legitimate or not. Whether you are lying to them or not. If you say you want to come to LA without anyone there is already a wrong answer. Because common sense why would you go to a place without knowing anybody or have even one relative to take you home there in LA. The US is not a tourist spot for Filipinos. The Americans knows most Filipinos who goes there will be TNT or tago ng tago to live and work in the US. They are not stupid. Checking in a hotel in LA is very expensive, like they will ask where do you going to get the money for the hotel at LA. They will check your bank account and your job in the Philippines if you can afford to live in a hotel at LA. So adding 1 +1=2 correct, so if they determined you cannot afford a hotel, they will immediately turn down your request for a visa from the consulate. Try again next time. HAVING A JOB IN THE PHILIPPINES is not enough to ask for a tourist visa from the US embassy in the Philippines. You should know better. You think they will give it to you just like that because you are working in the Philippines? Of course not. These people are more intelligent that you think. Even if you will say you will not overstay or live in the US, they will not believe you. You NEED A SOLID PROOF that you will come back to the Philippines before the expiration of your US tourist visa. They will judge if you have enough money for being a tourist in the US. Because if this is just easy I do not think you have to ask this here correct? SO IT IS NOT EASY CORRECT? That is what I thought so. It is like passing to a hole of a needle, like the Tagalog word "susuot ka sa butas ng karayom". I think you know the hole of a needle use for threading. How small that hole is. Even an insect will not fit in it. This is how hard it is. What you need is an sponsor coming from the US to legitimize your visa coming from the Philippines. An organization that will handle all your needs while you are visiting the US, like a tour group or something that will take place in the US and you in it. That way, the US consulate will think you will just finish the tour and come back home. Not going there on a solo trip to ask for a tourist visa. They already know this scheme of every Filipinos. Sorry to tell you. You need someone from the US side to take full responsibility of you while you are there. This is the only thing you can pass through the eye of the consulate, with your plan like going to the consulate and ask for a visa with your only reason is for being a tourist, with a job and enough money.====forget it. YOU CANNOT WIN WITH THIS KIND OF REASON.

If you are only concern about your visa, you do not need a travel agent. You can simply go to the nearest Immigration office and pay for the 58 days visa. I think you can even do that in the international airport. It would not even take more than a day. Or better yet get it before you come to the Philippines. Go to the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consul in your country.
Check this Philippine Foreign Affairs website for Philippine Embassy location

For Americans, you need a visa extension if you want to stay for more than 21 days. Contact the Philippine Embassy before you leave, or Philippine Immigration once you are in the country.

That website should help you. Also remember that kidnappers dont usually pick you up off the street in the daytime like you see in the movies, they find out the house you are staying at and come get you in the middle of the night while you are sleeping, gag you and drive you off in their truck at their leisure. But you are right...mindanao is not so dangerous as say Jolo. Anyway...good luck.
