How do I get my macbook's internet to work?

I can get online perfectly with mozilla firefox, but when I try to update anything, it says my internet connection doesn't work, sending me to system diagnostics, which says my internet connection is perfectly fine! Quicktime won't even play anything online because it says my connection doesn't work. My Safari won't work because it says it can't reach server. HELP ME PLEASE!
