Of course you should!!! I mean, unless you donate it to a charity ( which is a good idea ), how would you return it, or who would you return it to? Anyone that was careless enough to have that much money on them while in the ocean ( or lake or wherever it was ) doesnt deserve to have it back. Yes, I know that sounds cruel, but just think about it. Of course you could call the lost and found and ask if anyone has lost any amount of money - but dont tell them how much - and see what the response is. Just follow your heart. Good luck! p.s. If noone claims it, I could tell you I just lost it! lol. Thanx, Lauren ------oops - just saw you found it on the beach, not in the water. Wait a day or 2 then call the proper authorities to see if anyone lost it. Finding it in the water is a whole different ball game. Don't even tell the authorities how much you found. Just tell them you found some and see what happens. Even some of the authorities can be greedy and they can always get a friend or relative to claim it. Let's just hope some nice old man or lady on vacation lost it. Then I would feel bad keeping it. The most important thing is do NOT tell how much you found. OK? Good Luck!

I would turn it in- if no one can claim it, then it is yours, legally. Otherwise I would have a guilty conscience and who knows? The people that lost the money may need it more than you do- you never know for sure.

Just say, " found some money scuba diving off of _____ beach. Call to identify." If they do not know how much was found, it wouldn't be their money.

Most of the time, the police don't find whose it was- and then it is yours, guilt free.

I would let an authority know that you found some money, I wouldnt tell them how much, bodies of water are not always under the jurisdiction of local authorities some bodies of water like the oceans belong to federal governments, or at times lakes belong to the states etc... you wouldnt be proscuted over 500 bucks it was found in water not on private property, the water falls under differant statutes of the law, it is shared territory, yet larger findings must be recorder to governement, keep the money, what your going to give to some mexican cop who doesnt speak english laugh at you take your dough and feed his kids with it, its the truth sad but true, keep the dough.

PS I SAW THAT YOU FOUND IT ON DRY LAND, that is differant case now, I would say you found it but dont tell them how much, here is why, if no one reported money missing they cant say much but if they did get a report and they tell you it was 500 it is differant, you will see think about it a bit

After agreeing the money is yours, will the next question come from your boyfriend, asking since he found it does he have to split it with his ex girl friend.

You should have spent it already on a good dinner and another day on the water. You were on a roll.

Was there anyone's name on it? Was anyone near or around? If not, Keep it. But if you'll feel guilty about keeping it, turn it in to the police and if no one claims it in 30 days then it's yours as long as you file a report. But remember, someone might claim it and it wont be yours anymore.

Depends how far you were out and other circumstances. Was it out 50 miles from the coast, was it in a wallet, was anyone else other than you and your boyfriend there and mentioned the loss of money? 50 miles out international water===finders keepers. Wallet you should return it. Someone on the boat with you mentions they lost it, return it.

Was there ID with it? if so you are required by law to return it. Otherwise you could be charged with theft. And since you were smart enough to post it here someone will surely report you.
