it is worth its silver content only. Coins with no dates are worth nothing to collectors. Buffalo nickles have sometimes been acid treated to raise the date, but the acid treating ruins the coin even more than having no date, if possible. An unworn quarter contained .18 ounce of silver. Assuming 10% worn, that leave .16 ounce of silver time about $16 an ounce giving about $2.50 for the coin.

If the date is 'gone' that is, worn off, then it is unlikely to be worth much. The big money goes to coins in 'mint' condition, that is, almost new, and certainly with all the figures visible. If you have the time, rather than researching on the web, take the coin to a licensed appraiser, only they would be able to tell you the actual and insurance value.
