Actually, it is very normal to have a bowel movement when pushing out your baby. Since it would often be embarrassing to the mother, doctors, nurses and midwives are very professional about it and clean it away quickly without a word. Bless them! At that point though, even if you feel it happening, you probably won't care. There is just too much going on for you to pay attention.

In America, most women will get either a private room or share with only one other mom. Even so, sleeping is often difficult after labor despite how tired you are simply because of all of the excitement and adrenaline. Snuggle with your baby, take advantage of the staff on hand and look forward to the peace and quiet of home. :)

you do poo during labor which is why you are told not to eat once you have gone into labor

once visiting time is over there are no screaming babys as they are taken to the nursery for over night care
and even if you keep the baby with you it's not hard to sleep as you are in so much pain that you take the painkillers you are given or your just really exhausted that you fall asleep easy

my suggestions

take the drugs you are offered
take advantage of the nursery time cause that's the last time your gonna sleep all night for a while
also remove everything from the bassinet drawers in your hospital room before you go home (there are diapers, wipes, burp cloths, blankets and hats in there)
and say you are formula feeding cause you get better and more free stuff ( i liked enfamil)

Lots of women have bowel movements early in labor. Also its perfectly normal to pass some poo when you are pushing. You won't even know you are doing it. Your care providers are prepared for this and will take care of it. Actually, its a sign that a baby head is almost out - so its very exciting for care providers! (Honestly, I was a doula and its a good sign!).

Check out where you plan to birth to see how the rooms are configured. Its hard to sleep in a hopital anyway no matter if you are in a ward with other moms and babies.

You can always consider staying home with a midwife!

You can poo. I know loads of people who have done it. Personally i get diarrhea a day or so before which i've heard a lot of women do too. I actually had a wee on the bed during a contraction, but no one seemed to be bothered. they see it all the time

The screaming babies aren't so much the problem on the maternity ward. It's everybody else pottering about. The lights go off at a certain time and come on early. And it's always too hot! And you always seem to get one woman wailing all night! Thats why I asked to go home as soon as possible after my second. They let me out after 6 hours, and it was sooooo much better.

As you are going through labor you feel both excited and scared no matter how many times you have been through it. Each time is different. To be honest I went through it without any drugs or medication. (It wasn't too bad my first child, but I was induced my second time and that sucked.) Honestly, though you forget about all of the pain that you had to go through once the baby is born. It was one of the best experiences I could have ever gone through. I know some might argue with me on that one. By the way I have heard of people pooping while in labor but it was nothing bad.

Many people do poo when pushing the baby out, usually a small amount. It is no big deal. Also, in the states, moms usually have private rooms and it is your little one that keeps you up at night :)
Typically, labor is hard for both mom and baby, and they sleep a lot for the first couple day.

Generally most pregnant women will have a really large bowel movement that pretty much clears out the intestines prior to going into labor maybe 24 to 36 hours before actual labor begins. The body prepares it's self for this naturally.

Most newborns do not scream and cry all they time. They nurse they sleep.

When the baby was moving down and I was getting ready to push, I had a big bowel movement. It makes more room for the baby. I had a private room before, during, and after delivery. All that other stuff was no problem.

You may poo,but the nurses wisk it away. You will sleep fine since labor is hard work and you will be tired. I only had one other person in my room and the only problem I had was when either of our babies cried, you leak milk like crazy.
