I've heard that it gets dark earlier the closer you get to the Tropics and later the closer you get to the poles. Just trying to see how true that is?
Plus, can you remember when it gets dark on the summer solstice - June 21st? In the Uk that's around 10pm

Someone asked where I am .... Sunderland, Baby. Sitting in the dark now, listening to Mozart's Tocata and Fugue on the Classic fm Easter 300 Countdown - we're at 70, I think.
By the way, that sounds great, the trampolene, quilt and stars, I mean.

Sorry, Bach's Tocata and Fugue. I knew it didn't sound right when I typed it, it's just that Mozart has 19 entries in this year's Countdown and I'm a bit worried that he may topple my favourite (Beethoven) - again.

Its getting dark outside at the moment.
There's no clouds either.
You people should try sitting outside preferably laying on a trampoline with a quilt all snug and warm and waiting for the stars to come out. Its really something.
I know it sounds sad but its a great way to spend time with friends that are sleeping over. =D

You need to be firm and consistent. You will need to exhaust your 5 year old by playing with him a lot during the day, and then start the winding down about an hour before bed. A warm bath, a nice drink, and reading time. Start that at 9 tonight, then every two or three days, start half an hour earlier. You can't go from 10 to 8 in one night, after all. That's too much of a change, and you would have a hard time with it just the same as he will. Keep the lights off, except for a night light if necessary. Get him up at school time 7 days a week, regardless of when he goes to bed. When he's up, he's up. Start your day no matter how tired he is. Remember he's a little boy, so the adults have to set the standards, and you have to enforce them. It will help if the rest of the house is somewhat quiet until he falls asleep. There's no reason to torture him with fun noises and laughter and lights coming from the rest of the house, after all. Also, be sure that you do not have toys and books in his bedroom. His bedroom needs to be a place where all he can do is rest and sleep. Keep the toys and books someplace that he can't get to by himself at night. Perhaps you will store them in a chest or armoire in your room? He may test you, but if you are sure that he should go to bed earlier, then you have to be strong. Also, just wondering, are you putting him down for a nap in the daytime? Letting him watch more than 1/2 hour of tv or play video games for more than 1/2 an hour a day? If so, maybe he is getting too much rest in the daytime. Children need to run and play until they exhaust themselves, so that they grow up healthy and strong, and don't turn into couch potatoes.
