I know i asked this in the sports section but i figured that someone in the dance section might be able to answer this better. I am a 15 year old guy who has been doing gymnastics for 5 years. The dress code for guys at my gym is the traditional mens gymnastics shirt/leotard and shorts, no pants cause my coaches can't see if our legs are bent etc. with pants on. During the winter months it gets cold so i asked my headcoach if i could wear mens footless ballet tights under my shorts, she said that she i could as long as they were close to skin tone and they had to be low waist style stirrup tights so the waist isnt half way up my torso and so they dont ride up my legs. I have looked everywhere and can not find any mens low waist stirrup tights in any color but black, does anyone know where i can get a couple pairs? One of the girls in my class suggested a pair of capezio or danskin tights geared more for women, she says that they are actually unisex, will that work too?

To answer "Super Girl" uhhh yeah since when is doing gymnastics make you gay.....guys do gymnastics.....uh have you seen the olympics or are you just so stuck up and think that you know everything that you are stuck in your own little world. And just to let you know the mens gymnastics shirt/leotard is what guys wear in gymnastics only with shorts over them, just like guys wear something kinda like it in ballet...but because you are an un-educated person you dont know much about life outside of your world....like what goes on in the other parts of the world. In China gymnastics for men and women is a big thing. And just to let you know if you talk to any of the big names in football alot of those guys have had some type of gymnastics or ballet, it helped with their balance and coordination. My advice to you is do some research before you go making assumptions that you know nothing about.

I looked for underarmour already unfortunately there was non in a color that would be acceptable in my gym. And sweats are not form fitting enough.

I have been taking ballet for about 7 years now have only seen one company make mens tights in anything close to skin tone and they are by capezio, but they are only in full foot and footless, not stirrup. Since you are wearing shorts over them i would say the easiest and most likely the cheapest way to go is with the unisex/womens tights. Yes tights that say women will fit men and no there is no problem with wearing them if that is the only thing you can find to meet the studio dress code. The major thing with unisex/womens tights is they are not quite as thick and come in pink. Check the bottem link in my sources for a link to the geiger ballet academy website about mens dancewear for anyone that does not belive me. I personally wear body wrappers tights and would say that they would be the best, get the jazzy tan color that is the closest thing to skin tone imo (i wear these tights in both jazzy tan and black for acro and modern classes). If you do get the danskin get them in Light Toast or suntan and make sure they are not the shimmery type, I am not a big fan of capezio but you can try them. Hope that helps ~ Sarah
P.S. One of the boys in the younger preteen ballet classes at my studio wears a pair of black tights from danskin under a pair of shorts with a danceshirt cause it is next to impossible to find boys ballet tights everything is in mens sizes, and when you do find them they are priced at between $20 and $30 a pair so it is just easier and cheaper to do that (note i have a lenient instructer.)

I agree with Sarah G, try womens dance tights. I wear nothing but Danskin brand tights, they are comfortable and come in colors that will match skin tone. Get the soft supplex material cause they are the most comfortable, and are not shimmery. Lets face it also no one will know they are womens tights if you dont tell them so dont worry about anyone making fun of you, just tell them they are mens tights and no one will say anything. If you dont want to mail order them see if there is a dance supplier in your area that you could go to to pick some up.

im a dancer and im pretty sure that if u get capezio (which i don NOT reccommend, they're really a bad fabric or w/e) or danskin it might work, you'd just have to get a larger size. But you should also try the underarmour stuff from sports stores, they're tight to you legs so you can see if your bending or not...good luck!

Some tips Remember when buying clothes for cold weather that wool retains most of its insulation properties when wet, while cotton loose most of its. Wear loose fitting clothing, to optimize insulation. Wear a pair of cotton and a pair of wool socks to increase insulation and take the perspiration way from your feet. Wear a stocking cap or other warm hat. One that covers the ears and neck area is particularly effective. Remember, most heat loss is through the head. Wearing a warm hat warms the rest of your body, too. Paper is a good insulator and can be wrapped around the body (under your clothes) to add insulation.
