I do. But then I put sugar in the fridge, eggs, mustard, lemons, and chocolate mix for milk... the idea of bacteria growing in warmer temps better than in colder.... I would rather be safe. I don't think all restaurants refrigerate ketchup.

I know when I was younger I worked for Burger King and the ketchup was in a bag in a dispenser on the wall. I don't think they would keep it at room temperature if there was a risk. Too much to lose in a law suit.

This from the Heinz site:

Should ketchup be refrigerated?
Because it is a very acidic product, ketchup does not spoil easily. Once opened, in order to maintain the product's quality more effectively, we do suggest that ketchup (and any other processed food) be refrigerated after opening because refrigeration retards spoilage.

Hawaii - I refrigerate my ketchup but not because I have to - I do it because I like to dip hot french fries into cold ketchup. Restaurants just leave it on the tables all the time.

I always refrigerate the ketchup in our house. I think that it taste the best cold, I know lots of people who don't care if they refrigerate it or not.

It is recommended on the bottle that you refrigerate it after opening, which would keep it safe to eat and fresher tasting for a longer period of time.

I ;think among those same lines. If you open it up, and it breaks the seal, then you refrigerate it. keeping it cool to stop bacteria or mold from forming. when you leave food out it begins to build bacteria right away, Keep all foods that you put into a fridge covered and protected. other wise it will also start to form some types of bacteria. or mold.

i noticed recently that in resturaunts the ketchup just sits on the table and realized that there really wasnt a good reason to be refrigerating it.i guess putting it in the fridge is just tradition.
