because its something that people are not used to, where ever you go different types of people are seen as different, its all based on the majority in the population if you go to a school full of rich kids who wear suits then dressing in a gothic outfit will make people feel threatened or if your at a skate park and your wearing a cowboy style outfit then the same thing, you just have to not worry about what people think and enjoy yourself and your decisions.

Being different can be a good thing. Personally, I can't stand people who try and act the same, and who desire to "fit in".

On the other hand...some people use the term "different" when they are refering to those who reject traditional Judeo-Christian values/decency/sanity/logic. -those kind of "different" people are rejected because they are contrary to the values and morality of those rejecting them- just as a liberal would reject someone whom he perceives as "racist"- not because they are "different" but because their values are antithetical.

Because in the world today society demands uniformity and everyone wants to "fit in"... so when someone doesn't, they don't understant why you would want to stand out.
