No, it's not undefined. It would only be undefined if both of the given points had the same x-coordinate but different y-coordinates.

slope = m = (difference in Ys) / (difference in Xs) = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1) = (10 - 1) / (-7 - 2) = 9 / -9 = -1

The line that connects the points (2, 1) and (-7, 10) has a slope of negative one.

to find the gradient of the line you use the formula,
(y1 - y2) / (x1-x2)
In other words the difference of the Y values divided by the difference of x values.

1-10 / 2--7
1-10 / 2 +7
-9 / 9
-1

slope is (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) = (10 - 1)/(-7 - 2) = 9/-9 = -1

m = slope

m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)
m = (10 - 1) / (-7 - 2)
m = 9 / -9
m = -1
