It has more than one meaning, I think.
It could be "to own" or "to be a part of".

Three different things:
1. Having a place in a group of people, related by blood or caring or both, and feeling accepted by them. Having a place where you belong is a great feeling.
2. A more personal sense of being strongly and irrevocably attached to an individual. For example, my son belongs to me. He is an adult living his own life, but he is my son now and forever.
3. The least important is a physical possession. My car belongs to me in a legal sense. I own it.
You can live without a single possession in the world, but it is very sad to not have one of the first two.

something which is yours and you own it- its no one else and cannot be anyone else no matter what they do.
another definition is that you feel comfortable with someone or somewhere. you feel as though you don't need to be anywhere else and staying where you are is good enough for you. you feel content and happy with them and feel as though you have something to contribute. you feel as though you have a purpose and a use when you are there- when you 'belong' somewhere.
Another definition is related to the top one but more to do with humans. you feel like you have a soul mate and 'belong' to him/her. This is feeling which makes you want to be with no one else. You cannot imagine being with anyone else and feel disgusted and uncomfortable at the thought.
I'm sure that other people may have a different opinion to me but that was what i thought.

Nothing truly "belongs" to me. except my faith... Every thing else is just material.. And you can't own a person. You may be responsible for them but they do not "belong" to you.
