I sincerely hope that you have by now made immediate plans to move. Your roommate is endangering your life as well as that of her/his own. This person purports to cause you bodily harm. They want to have you either raped or killed. These kind of antics that he/she is undertaking are not something to be taken lightly.
GET OUT! And if you don't want to hurt their feelings, then think of the loss that your death will be to your family and friends.

Yes it is!! It is dangerous for both of you and all of your possessions. Even if you live in a small "safe" town~it is still very dangerous, you never know who may be passing through. Or who might "crack" from stress, personal problems or whatever. With the door unlocked they wouldn't even have to worry about breaking in, they can just walk in & do whatever they want. Try to find some way to convince your roommate to lock the door at all times, for both of your sakes! I grew up in a small "safe" town where an 80+ year old woman was raped & murdered by a teenage boy that went crazy for some reason. He was always kind of weird but nobody expected him to do something like that. Which just proves that you never know and it is a 100 times worse nowdays, that happened over 35 years ago.
Please find some way to convince her/him to lock up!!

Leave a note on your roomates bedroom door asking, "DID U LOCK THE FRONT DOOR?"
It's not a chance worth taking to find out of it is "safe" or not!

Yeah, it is also very disrespectful to your concerns for safety. Your roommate sounds ignorant and selfish, and you should have a talk with him about this.
