Gently put a tiny bit of pressure all over him, you'll know if it hurts him. Hope he's OK.

Hm. Hamsters are a lot more hardy than some would have us think - I saw a hamster fall from 6 feet on to it's back with no problems at all. However, the bang sound doesn't sound good, I'm assuming he didn't fall onto a carpet!
I'd get him checked by a vet - very cheap just for a hamster check. If he seems lively and the same as ever he probably is OK, but you don't really know what's going on inside him, and if he was dead in the morning and you hadn't taken him to a vet you'd probably never forgive yourself.

Watch for any signs of wobbliness in walking, head shaking, not eating, not drinking, decreased poop in litter, limping or dragging of the legs. Even body shaking when still, crying/screaming when being picked up or held can indicate a problem. You see any of this, get him to the vet right away. In the mean time you can gently go over him with your fingers, check all the legs, rib cage, his spine and neck areas for any swelling or pain upon touching the area.
I answered 2 questions like this last week, but their hamsters had noticeable severe injuries in one day, but it's a better sign if yours is not having any severe signs from the start. These animals are hardy, but not so hardy a fall can't injure them. Imagine if we fell 20 or more feet. this is about the equal distance for them to fall from our hands.
I wish him all the luck and I hope he was only shaken and not injured. If you have any doubt, take him to be checked out their next business day, holiday/weekend visits are extremely expensive. My vet is considered cheap and he's $100 just for him to unlock the doors to see you.

Well first put a sock in his cage and make sure he can sleep in it. Then you give him etra water and if he wont drink it then take and eyedropper and put it in his mouth. He needs to sleep just in case of concussion. Good luck!
