My father threw me out the house after I told him that I was gay...
20 years later we are in a "live and let live" mode but they'll never fully accept me for who I am...

Uhm, my mom's in denial, stepdad was an ***, neither has stopped me from being a happy and healthy human being.
Few parents kill their offspring over this issue. Though the steps in coming to terms with it is like the steps of dealing with a death, from denial to acceptance and everything in between.

If any of my children were gay there would be nothing I could do about, nor is there anything that I WOULD do about it. My kids deserve to be happy and if that is who they are then all i can do is accept them for they are. I may or may not agree with all of their life choices but they are my children and my only jobs are to love them, protect them and help them grow into responsible adults. Being gay is a lifestyle choice that really only affects the person who is involved in it. You cannot judge someone for sommething that has nothing to directly deal with you. Anyone who judges others based on that needs to take a long look in the mirror to see if they are sinless before tossing stones.

My parents accept and love me.
And yes, it's a good thing you're not gay. I don't think you'd be very popular.

They actually took it a lot better than I thought they would. They said they had already suspected it anyway. My mom was all sympathetic (I was shocked too!). She said "It must have been lonely for you trying to hide it." and it was. I just cried and hugged her tighter. It felt better to get it out.

well, seeing how my ma' is gay and my dad hasn't talked to me for three years....
I'd say pretty cool. It all worked out in the end. Me and my ma' are now closer, and my dad wont even look at me (YES!!!) ...so...all in all, pretty good.

My parents love me for who I am. Even though they may not understand or "want" to believe it, they still love me. They have been married a long time and still love each other, they want me to be happy.
