Please read the book: 'OUT OF GAS: The End of the Age of Oil' (2004) by Dr. David Goodstein.

Cal Tech professor Dr. David Goodstein discusses all the possibilities of running dry.

Dr. Goodstein suggested the massive construction of many nuclear power plants (Red China is building dozens of Nuclear Plants all over their country right now); improving solar energy and batteries; creation of many wind farms; coal, steam, and hybrid cars, and researching all the many bio-fuel possibilities. Tidal power, wave power, steam vent power, and earth core power are all discussed in depth.

Every one here is wrong! First of all, ask yourself this...'Why is the oil there in the first place?' now think about, Why? It's so obvious! How does the mantle stay so hot? Now here's your answer....As all burning fuels do, they need an energy source, something to keep them running. In this case the Mantle can't stay hot, it needs an energy source otherwise it's die out. Well Oil is the energy source for the mantle. So when the Earth runs out(at this rate if we continue using it) of oil, the mantle would likely begin to burn for a little longer, than it would begin to cool. Volcanoes would stop erupting, Earthquakes would also likely begin to slowly decrease as well. And if that happens, i'm sure we'd feel like monsters to shut down the natural geological forces that renew our planet constantly. Eventually we'd basically kill the Earth from the inside. The magnetic field would also very likely shut down, therefore we'd be exposed to Radiation coming from the Sun, which in time, would kill us all.

Well, we'd all stop polluting, go to biodiesel, and go back to many of the old ways that God intended - going outside and farming and playing instead of striving to reach level 5 on Yahoo Answers all day JUST BECAUSE there is nothing better to do.
