You seem to be describing a program known by various names such as "Paid Time Off" (PTO). Typically PTO programs use an accrual entry for each pay period. The accrual may have your vacation, holidays and some sick time. When you take off from work, you use hours out of the PTO bank for pay. Most firms use this program as it saves money. As an employee the program may be good for you or it may not be in your best interest. If you are ill, you are going to use up your vacation and holiday time. If you are not ill, you may obtain a couple of extra paid off days. I have been on both sides of the fence on this issue. Remember that no firm is required to provide any vacation, holiday or sick pay. This is a benefit.

You need to check this out with your union. If you're not a member, join one as soon as you can. If you are working in an industry with it's own recognised union, join that. If not, try the T&G [Transport and General Worker's Union]. They can advise you on all matters concerning your rights and if your employer is breaking the law concerning your pay and hours, they will act on your behalf. I mean, they're not going to call you out on strike, they will speak to your boss.

the theory that private wealth creates jobs is packed with crap. Bush tax cuts in rigidity for greater advantageous than a decade, the place are the roles? by sheer documents, the backside ninety% of folk in any state produce greater call for than the precise 10%. companies and persons do no longer hire human beings because of the fact they have a great number of money and are feeling beneficiant, they hire human beings because of the fact they could with a view to maintain or improve their salary. the way this works is by ability of client call for. and not utilising a great style of shoppers or in the event that they are actually not spending sufficient, there is no longer sufficient call for for companies to enhance and hire greater. If consumers do no longer discover the money for, no person expands. Take a lesson from Henry Ford. He paid human beings no longer in ordinary terms what they might take, he might have paid them plenty much less, yet he paid them sufficient that they might have sufficient money the vehicles they made, expanding call for.

if you are unionized, then this must be in your contract and you agreed to it, but you can contact your shop steward and try to negotiate a new contract
if you are not unionized, the employer makes the rules and you follow them
