My son is one week old and he sleeps all the time. He will sleep for about 4 hours, wake up and eat and then go right back to sleep. Normal? He is 9 lbs if that makes any difference.

Baby's under 3 month old often sleep 20-21 hours (sometimes even more) a day.. Waking for only very short periods to feed and go straight back to sleep.. It's quite normal..

After a few months you will notice an increase in waking time try to adjust that time for during the day...

In the meantime try to rest as much as you can while your son is sleeping both he and you had a very hard working day a week ago and both of you need your rest.. In a few months your son will be awake much more and you will long for the days of sleep and rest.. Especially when he hits age 2 -3 and can make messes faster than a tazmanian devil on a caffeine high..

My son is now 10 weeks old, and in the very beginning he wouldn't wake up at all. I had to wake him for his feedings--he'd eat and go back to sleep. Perfectly normal for little ones this age. Soon he will be up when you want him to sleep! That, too, will pass...my son now demands to go to bed around 10:30PM and wakes around 4AM for a feeding, and is up for the day around 8AM. BUT-every baby is different!! I have an older son that was awake all of the time and slept through the night from day one. I hope this helps you. Congratulations on your new little one--enjoy him while he is little and sweet!

He's perfect. When my daughter was that age, somedays she would wake up only to eat, and that was it! It's funny because right now all you want him to do is wake up and play with you. Later, that changes. My daughter is 4 months old, and only wants to play and talk with mommy. Sometimes I'm like "aren't you a little tired sweetie. Don't you want to take a nap?" LOL

Be thankful! As he gets older, make sure that his sleep time coincides with night otherwise you will be awake at night as well.
