The two most interesting times to go are around new years and in August when the Japanese celebrate "obon". Most areas in Japan, especially south of Tokyo, have mild winters and it rarely snows. New Years is the most important holiday of the year and throughout Japan there are numerous traditions and festivals to attend. In August, the Japanese celebrate "Obon", which is a celebration of the ancestor spirits that return to visit. There are also a lot of festivals all throughout Japan, and each region has its own unique specialty. The downside is that August/September are the two hottest and most humid months.

Other seasons are pleasant to travel in, but i would avoid May if possible because it is the rainy season. June and July can also get quite muggy and hot, but in the north (Hokkaido) it should be pleasant.

Late March, early April for Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) Thats when I am planning on going next year, It is the most beautiful time of the year.

Summertime would be like going to Florida in the summer, its hot, humid, and there isn't a ton of AC everywhere so it gets kind of sticky and uncomfortable, plus it rains a lot.

My first trip, I went Mid November-Mid December, it was nice and cool, with a light jacket, you shouldn't get too cold, no snow was falling yet in Tokyo/Osaka, Fall is a great time to go, as its not as crowded.

Winter, would be great if you want to go to the snow festival up in Hokkaido, it gets extremely cold up there so you have to wear heavy winter clothing. I want to travel at that time of year in the future as well.

Overall, I would say Spring or Fall would be the best times to travel, as its not too hot, nor too cold, with Spring getting the upper hand because of the Cherry Blossoms.

As a resident of Japan, I can tell you firsthand of the weather in Japan... In August, It is VERY humid and hot so I would not reccamend coming here then... October is normally very nice with some chilly days and some mild days... December is cold and in the north you can expect a whole lot of snow and low tempuratures... In march it starts to warm up.... By May it is getting really hot... If I were you, I would come here in October to experiance the best weather!

Actually, right now. Spring time is wonderful in Japan. Late March/early April is when the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom and the weather is just beautiful.

Depends where you're going and what you're looking for.

I managed to just miss Rally Japan in Hokkaido, AND the Tokyo Game Show last time I went to Japan. :(

Weather-wise? I'd say October-November (cooling, but not cold), or March-May (warming, but not hot, also sakura are blooming).

I like October in Japan. Lots of sun, but not too hot. Summer is too hot (and the heat drags right into September). Winter is too cold, and spring is too unpredictable-I've been snowed on a cherry-blossom viewing party.

May - September is best. Weather is hotter and the crowds ar elarge, but the scenery is excellent and the people are eager to help you know the country. Unlike the USA, Japan is safe, intelligent and friendly.

I'll will recommend either fall or spring in means of weather. I would definitely NOT recommend summer, because it's super hot and humid there. In US, it's hot, but it's dry. In Japan, it's also humid so it can make matters worse. Spring is good also because you'll be able to see cherry blossoms =).

All of four seasons in Japan are different but I personally recommend summer. It has thousand of summer festivals and the fire works are AMAZING. Also "yatai" which is stand(booth) temporary shops are so much fun! Many REAL traditional Japanese foods, lottery etc. You can't experience it in other countries.

Oh definitely Cherry blossom season...

It can be crowded though... Especially in Kyoto.

I love to colletc woodblock prints and when I go, I like to try and find the scenes in the pictures...

Some are beautiful in winter (have not been in winter yet) and some are beautiful in spring... ect...

Japan is VERY expensive... and the deals they have in their off seasons are very nice...
