If you want to compare rates this is the official site of the Las Vegas Taxi Authority. Keep in mind the rates they quote are the "minimum expected".
http://www.state.nv.us/faresfees.htm
It's also a very good idea to take down the Taxi Authority phone number. If you think a cabbie cheats(long hauls) you. Call the TA from the cab before you pay the fare. A cabbie can get fined heavily and have his license suspended for cheating customers.
Keep in mind if you want to take a taxi from McCarran, there is usually at least a 30 minute wait in the taxi line. If you arrive at a busy time it can easiliy be an hour wait. If you come in on a Friday/Saturday night or during a special event or large convention a 2 hour wait is not unusual.
The Shuttles run anywhere from $6-$10 depending on where you are going. "I hate the pay shuttles, we did it twice, we should have learned our lesson the first time!!" >I would never take a pay shuttle again<
There are very-very few hotels that have free shuttles from McCarran. This site has a list of all the free hotel shuttles in Las Vegas.
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com "VEGAS INFO" >Transportation
If you travel fairly light you can do what we do and save both time and money. We catch the CAT bus from McCarran, either the #108 Paradise or #109 Maryland Pkwy bus stops at the airport every 5 or 6 minutes. You can ride so long as you have no more luggage than what the airlines will allow as carry on. The cost is $2.50 for a 24 hour pass, they will charge you an extra .50c if you ride the strip bus(Deuce) with this pass>the .50c and your 24 hour CAT pass will get you another 24 hour pass<
To catch the CAT at McCarran >As you walk towards the baggage claim area there is an escalator down with a sign over it "Ground Level Transportation 0" , take the escalator down, go out the doors, the bus stop is on your right. The bus requires exact change, but one person can pay for one or all in your party<
You can take the #108 Paradise or the #109 Maryland Pkwy "North" bus all the way to downtown LV if you wish, it takes from 45-55 minutes depending on traffic. >You could be downtown and checking into your hotel, or you could still be standing in line waiting for a taxi< Or you can trasfer to the #201 W Tropicana or #202 W Flamingo to get over to the strip< The drivers are great, if you don't know, just tell them where you're going they will tell you where to transfer.
It's also possible to take the #109 Maryland Pkwy "South" bus out to the SSTT(South Strip Transfer Terminal) this takes about 8 minutes, transfer to a waiting Deuce bus and take it straight down the strip to your hotel. Or all the way to the DTT if you like. It's kind of fun to do this if you arrive after dark. The strip is a pretty awesome sight from the second level of the Deuce(go to the upper level of the bus and sit in one of the front seats).

Get on one of the shuttles. I was so tired when I got there that I barely recall but I think there is a monorail that takes you out of the airport and you can get a shuttle from there. Those that say 'How can taxis rip you off when the airport is 10 mins away?' Believe me, they can and they do. Shuttle is very cheap. Even trying to get a taxi along the strip is a rip off. When I was there, I asked to go from Circus Circus to Luxor which should be about four minutes but they have this complex freeway bull which is behind the strip and it took 25 mins for that four minute ride. You really have to put your foot down and DEMAND that they take the strip. Have a great time!

It depends a lot on what hotel you stay at. Most hotels offer a shuttle or limo service while others just opt to take a taxi. The Vegas airport (Mccarran) is very easy to get around and you will see lots of signs for transportation to the strip.

It depends on where you're staying. The airport is closer to the south end of the strip so if you're staying at Luxor, Mandalay Bay, etc it might not be a bad idea to take a cab. If you're closer to the north end, like Treasure Island, Stratosphere, or off the strip you probably want to take a shuttle. As soon as you get to luggage claim you will see numerous signs directing you to ground transportation. Most shuttles charge $5-$7 per person to take you to your hotel. They will load up the shuttle until it's full and start dropping people off. If you're staying on the north end of the strip, there's a greater chance you're going to be in that shuttle for awhile. If you don't want to waste your time, take a cab, which could run between $10-$30 depending on where you stay.

Taxis will screw you from the airport. Take a hotel shuttle. They are cheap. They pick up a big van load of people and drop them off at hotels. The taxi back to the airport wasn't too expensive.

My advice to you would be to rent a limo. The reason being is that most limos cost only about $50.00 plus tip. which really isnt all that bad especially if you have a few people going to chip in. Anyways thats what i do because i hate wasting time waiting in line for a shuttle or a taxi. When your rent a limo you can reserve one before you leave for your trip. Then when you get off your plane there will be a limo driver waitng with your name. saves alot of time and doesnt cost that much more than those taxis. Its always nice to arrive in style and what the heck your on vacation right? have a Good time! For limos go to vegas.com or to the casinos website your staying at and they might have a casino limo to come and pick you up( sometimes cheaper)

We just got back from vegas last week. The best way to get to the strip hotels is one of the shuttle buses just outside to the left of where you pick up your luggage. The one we used was CLS? ( I think that was the name) It costs $5 a person and you can even arrange for pick-up at your hotel to get back to the airport later. When we went last year we used a cab and he screwed us just as a lot of people warn you about them. It cost a $23.00 and took longer and of course he wanted a tip!!!

I've shuttled, which is cheap. I'm not sure how the taxis can screw you because the strip is less then ten minutes drive time from the airport. If they have a 'taxi stand' which they should, ask ahead and compare prices. have a good time!

If you take a taxi, tell the driver to NOT take the tunnel. If they do, tell the doorman at your hotel you got long hauled. It will be taken care of.
